CARLSBAD — A new awakening has come to Carlsbad. It's called Parents, Families, Friends of Lesbians and Gays, or PFLAG for short.
Carlsbad is only the latest in New Mexico to provide an organization for people who may need support to come out or for family members and friends to understand what it means to be gay, lesbian or transgender. Twice monthly meetings are held at a local church in Carlsbad.
PFLAG is the largest family-based group of its kind, beginning in 1972. Our national organization and chapters are there to help people who don't know where to turn when they discover that they are, or a friend, or loved one is, lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
Relatives of the GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender) community can learn ways to support them through outreach and advocacy. All chapters offer confidential meetings and a space for nonjudgmental support.
PFLAG promotes the health and well-being of GLBT persons, their families and friends by allowing them to cope with an adverse society, and education
